The
articular churches
were built as the result of protestant movement in Slovakia. Articular
churches are wooden churches for Evangelical congregations erected
under the terms of the Congress of Sopron of 1681 8. Oct. 1861 a
resolution was released. The resolution permitted to the Protestants in
Bratislava to build a church. But the Catholics as well as the
Protestants were not satisfied. So the Habsburg Emperor Leopold I. came
with another declaration which enabled the Protestants to build two
churches with some restrictions:
1.The
church had to be built
on the edge of the village, outside the city boundaries
2.The church had to be built a year
3.The church had to be built of wood without using nails
4.A stone base could have a one foot from the ground in maximum
5.The church had to be without tower
6.The entrance of the church must not be directly from the street
And
so the Protestants articular churches in Slovakia are the unique
historical landmarks. The reason of that was intolerance between the
Catholics and the Protestants
